Poster & Essay Contest for the Rememberance of Comfort Women during the World War II

Middle and high school students! The Youth Council of Fort Lee (YCFL) invites you to participate in a poster and essay contest commemorating the Comfort Women, victims of sexual slavery during World War II. In honor of the anniversary of the Comfort Women Memorial at Constitution Park, the Fort Lee community seeks to remember the legacy of these strong women and raise awareness through your creativity and voices.

Contest Ends: May 7, 2026

Eligibility: Bergen County resident students

Grade Divisions 7-9th & 10-12th

Awards for each division:

  • Poster First Place – $500 and Borough of Fort Lee certificate
  • Poster Runner-Up – $200 and Borough of Fort Lee certificate
  • Essay First Place – $300 and Borough of Fort Lee certificate
  • Essay Runner-Up – $100 and Borough of Fort Lee certificate

  • Posters must be on or mounted on poster board, any size between the minimum dimention of 16″ × 20″ to the maximum dimention of 20″ × 24″.
  • The submitted posters and essays should convey an understanding of the sacrifices and suffering of Comfort Women during World War II.
  • All submitted posters will be displayed, and the essay first-place winners will give speeches at the YCFL Comfort Women Memorial Commemoration during the first week of June 2026 at Fort Lee Constitution Park – the exact date and time will be announced in May 2026.
